Lynn Saville is a unique artist who skillfully captures the world between dusk and dawn with her camera lens. She studied art history at Duke University and photography at Pratt Institute. She currently resides in New York. Saville is known for her black and white photographs, which reveal images of our world at night. Her photographs grasp a sense of beauty and mystery found within cities and rural settings when sunlight is absent. Commenting on her own work, Saville states, "The twilight hour is almost a time of prayer, when the sky and earth are held together tenuously within us. In the city, the mystery of twilight still calls me. When the layers of the daytime busyness are peeled away, a resonant desolation remains. In twilight, reality is filled with dreams. This contradiction is the subject of my work," (Henkin 1995). Saville has photographed landscapes worldwide, and her work has been included in several major collections.
