The exhibition focuses on the recent work of six North Carolina craft artists working in a range of media. They represent the vitality, diversity and complexity of work presented by a new generation of North Carolina artists. Selected for the quality of their work, the artists, visually and conceptually, exemplify the rich future of craft history in this region. The artists are Vivian Beer, Devin Burgess, Cristina Córdova, Anne Lemanski, Brent Skidmore, and Jerilyn Virden.

Jerilyn Virden - Ceramics - Sandblasted clay forms bridging the gap between the vessel and modernist sculpture

  • Jerilyn Virdin website . She was artist-in-residence at Penland School of Crafts from 2001-2004.
  • Virdin's Two Chambered Bowl which won the National Council on Education for the Ceramic ArtsPurchase Award in 2003.

TT157 .N326 2004 - Many of the artists in this exhibition have been artists in residence or conducted workshops at Penland. The book, which was published in conjunction with an exhibition at the Mint Museum of Craft + Design in 2004, provides a history and describes attending the school. Available at the Mint Museum of Art Library.
