Woven Worlds: Basketry from the Clark Field Collection at the Philbrook Museum of Art

The Mint Museum of Craft + Design

September 9 - December 31, 2006

Background

The Clark Field collection of American Indian baskets is notable not only for its breadth - over 1000 baskets from 142 American Indian cultures - but also for the means by which the baskets were collected. Part of the story of this collection is Clark Field himself and how a middle-aged Tulsa businessman traveled the country collecting the baskets he loved, in many cases from their creators, from 1915 up into the 1950s. The other part of the story - the most important part - is the story of the baskets themselves and their makers - the story of Woven Worlds.
